What?
iMovie is a video creation and editing software application that allows users to make high-quality movie trailers and movies. Users can create their own movie trailer or full-length film by selecting videos or pictures and adding music, text, music, and dramatic effects to a premade template. Users can add their own style and flare to their work by adding filters, including voiceovers, changing the speed and placement of special effects, and using green screen features. iMovie allows users to create Hollywood-quality movie trailers and full-length films at a fraction of the cost!
So what?
Educators can use iMovie to introduce or review content in an engaging and meaningful way. Through the help of iMovie, educators can bring topics to life for their students. Students can replay videos wherever, whenever, as needed for instruction. Students can create an iMovie to demonstrate their understanding of a skill or topic. iMovie projects are a fantastic way to promote a culture of collaboration and 21st-century skills among students.
Now what?
After exploring iMovie, I have strengthened my understanding of how to use the application as well as ways to incorporate this technology in the classroom. In the future, I plan to phase out various traditional end-of-unit assessments and replace them with an iMovie project. Students’ iMovie creations will allow me to assess their understanding of a concept and furthermore, provide a gateway to rich class discussions about the content of a film.
* I have created a model iMovie project in which I demonstrate my knowledge of mixtures and solutions.
